Coastal Cup #8 Royal Victoria Yacht Club is in the books!!

Seven intrepid IOM’rs made the trek to Royal Victoria Yacht Club for the 8th and final event of Coastal Cup 2025.   Of course the weatherman predicted rain and even snow on the drive down from Nanaimo, which convinced 3 entrants to retire in front of the fire with visions of a turkey dinner dancing in their head!

The day dawned with a few sprinkles and a few zephyrs of wind from the north making their way across Loon Bay.   Oh wait, it’s now from the SW.   Steve Kibble did a fantastic job of keeping the racing going as the light winds oscillated in all directions.  The wind eventually settled into the north which was a welcome relief. Racing was extremely tight with everyone enjoying a lead at some point in many races, only to have it taken away in the next shift or puff !!

Don Martin found the conditions to his liking and navigated his ulta-slim M3 ‘Toothpick’ to an early lead that he maintained throughout the day with 29pts. Well done Don.   The wiley Jerry Brower sailed his ghost grey VISS consistently throughout the day to claim 2nd with 31pts. Great sailing in tricky conditions.

Special thanks to RVicYC and Steve Kibble for hosting and running this event, we all really appreciate it.

As well, welcome to Peter Keller who just joined the fleet with a beautiful wooden V8.
