A treat times two
Thirteen brave IOM’rs converged on Kitsilano Yacht Club on July 20th for CC 4. The NW winds had been howling all week but Saturday dawned with clear skies and a perfect northerly with of around 6-8 knots…yahoooo!
The first races of the morning saw lots of action as everyone adjusted to the chop that was rolling down English Bay. On the scoreboard things were getting sorted out with multiple sub-battles forming throughout the fleet. A couple of competitors were really on fire…Jim Fergusson in is BritPOP! finished the morning in 3rd place and Harry Trombley in his V12 had a solid grip on 5th.
The competitors hurried up the dock at the lunch break with images of Kathy Grimm’s delights floating in their heads. They were not disappointed…a delicious spread of sandwiches, veggies, homemade muffins and drinks awaited. YUMMMM!
When racing resumed in the afternoon the breeze was starting to show signs of abating and some interesting shifts were showing up that rewarded the competitors that keep their heads out the boat. At the end of the day, after 18 races, Jason Rhodes secured 1st place followed closely by Peter Grimm. Congratulations to both for great performances….8 first place finishes for Jason and 6 first place finishes by Peter….impressive. Jim Fergusson continued his hot streak and secured 3 place…nicely done Jim. Jim gets the special glass.
Perhaps the biggest draw for this event is the food delights that Kathy Grimm serves us. The post racing feast included gourmet smokies, nachos and other goodies that were incredible. A special thanks to Kathy and her able assistant Evadine for treating us so well. And special thanks to Fred Grimm for organizing and hosting this event.
