CC #6 took place on Saturday August 16th in Blind Channel in beautiful downtown Squamish. A sketchy weather report dropped our entry list down to only 7 competitors. On the day, the weather was fine, totally clear for the racing with only a few small showers as we were packing up. The wind ranged from 5 to 12 with lots of shifts to keep things challenging. The launching float was totally clear, and the upper walkway (control area) was perfect for sailing since the shrubbery had been recently pruned back. There was zero weed to contend with and current was minimal. Parking turned out to be most satisfactory with a small new parking area available just across from the sailing area. In the end, Jerry Brower showed us the way with Bob Lewis 2nd and Brian Woodward third. Don Martin was 4th followed by Wilson Chong and Michael Kidd. Harry Trombley was 7th in his brand new V12.
It was quite a day with 20 races completed. Next year, Squamish will be in the running to be one of our two-day events – a great sailing venue with lots of accommodation and restaurants close by.
