Hello all IOM keeners!
As the 2025 Coastal Cup Season comes to a close, what a year it was !!
Together we traveled and sailed in 8 wonderful locations across BC, and put together an enormously popular Canadian National Championship at the Saltspring Island Sailing Club.
Starting in March we sailed in Steveston, then Nanaimo (along with some attending the Great Ocean race) in April , then Kelowna in May, then Kitsilano in June, then Long Lake in July, then Squamish in August, then Saltspring CDN NCR in September, and finally Victoria in October!! Along the way we had a chance to sail with our friends in all kinds of conditions, with a wide variety of IOM designs, with a combination of new and very experienced skippers competing in a friendly and competitive environment !!
From the 2025 Coastal Cup Committee, a heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers and sailors that made this 2025 season a wonderful experience for all.
With 25 entrants in the Coastal Cup, and 32 entrants in the Canadian National Championship, we certainly needed many volunteers to jump in and help out.
The most common theme heard after the CDN NCR was – “what an amazing group of people having fun and jumping in to help out with every need”
Our community is strong and thank you.
Going forward into 2026, we will look at tweaking various events and look to areas where we can bring in new events and new skippers to continue to grow this great class of sailing and racing. Some of our members will be travelling to other events throughout North America and the World, which only speaks to how committed members of our fleet are to being competitive at large IOM events! With the IOM World Championship in the UK setting a fleet cap at 100 boats !! the IOM Class globally is clearly alive and vibrant!!
For the 2025 Committee itself; John Ball thank you for keeping our finances and entries in order; Don Martin for effectively chairing the season and writing all those NOR and SI documents that served us so well, and doing PRO duties at the CDN NCR; Brian Woodward for always catching all the details none of us thought about and doing all write ups after the events; and Art Prufer for well, just everything amazing Art does to keep this great event and fleet going including prizes! For myself Steve Kinsey, I just tried to keep up and let everyone know what was going on!
Back to Art for a moment, have a look at the amazing prizes below as a sample of some of the items Art manufactured over the year. Including each CC event, the Cdn NCR, and the Season Ending prizes, Art single handedly custom etched over 80 highly coveted beer glasses! Thank you Art, what a treat you have provided for so many of us !! Additionally Art created some beautiful raffle calendar prizes won by Jerry Brower, Mike Kidd, Wilson Chong, Jim Ferguson, and Don Martin. And, if that wasn’t enough Art created custom monogrammed drying towels and CC Series stickers for all series entrants! On top of that, for the Top Five for the 2025 Coastal Cup Season Art even out did himself creating custom lit up beer glasses which can individually be changed in colour. Also included for the Top Five were nice travel transmitter cases secured by Brian. Thank you Art and Brian !!
Prizes worth chasing next year indeed !!
This year, to drive an inclusivity campaign, we made the conscious decision to include everyone in the results that entered for the whole year.
We hope this can encourage everyone and anyone to beg, borrow, steal, and even buy an IOM, and join this fast, fun growing fleet!
Congratulations to everyone for a great Coastal Cup 2025 series.
Enjoy your fall and winter sailing events that you care to sail, and if Santa is needed for new parts we hope that will come to fruition!
See you next year.
Cheers,
Your 2025 Coastal Cup Committee
